SEATTLE – The Coast Guard is escorting a distressed vessel, Monday evening, approximately 40 miles west of La Push, Wash.
The crew of the sailing vessel Talara was transiting from Port Ludlow, Wash., to Hawaii, at approximately 6:53 p.m., when the mast spreader or mast support rigging failed.
The Coast Guard received launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Quillayute River in La Push.
The helicopter crew was the first to arrive on scene at 8:21 p.m. The motor life boat crew arrived on scene at 8:58 p.m. and is currently escorting the Talara toward the Washington coast.
