Cross-country cyclists brake before finish line

YORKTOWN, Va. - Personnel from Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown hosted approximately 40 participants and support crew of the Sea to Shining Sea cross-country bicycle ride, Friday, July 23,

The group, which is mostly comprised of military veterans, pedaled cross-country to raise public awareness for troops disabled from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The cyclists began their 4,000 mile ride in San Francisco, May 21, and are scheduled to complete their ride in Virginia Beach Saturday, July 24. The event is organized by World T.E.A.M. Sports, a nonprofit organization committed to bringing together athletes of all cultures, with and without disabilities.

Participants include former U.S. Administrator to Iraq Paul "Jerry" Bremer, Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling and Marine Corps Gen. Robert Magnus.
