ATLANTIC STRIKE TEAM RESPONDS TO CUMENE RELEASE |
Four members of the Atlantic Strike Team deployed Wednesday to assist Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah, Ky., at a incident involving a chemical release on the Ohio River. A barge carrying approximately 960,000 gallons of isopropylbenzene, or cumene, allided with a submerged lock wall at mile marker 939, Lock and Dam 52, near Brookport, Ill., and released more than 7,000 gallons of the product.
The strike team members will assist the unified command, consisting of Coast Guard, Kirby Corporation, and local and state emergency management agencies, by conducting air monitoring around the site.
