GULF STRIKE TEAM ASSISTS EPA WITH TENN. OIL WELL SPILL

Two members of the Gulf Strike Team deployed today to assist the Environmental Protection Agency with contractor oversight and shoreline cleanup and assessment of an oil well spill near Oliver Springs, Tenn.

On March 19, Partin Well Number 5 located northwest of Oliver Springs caught fire during drilling operations. The initial explosion caused the release of approximately 84,000 gallons of crude oil into a secondary retention pond.  A small amount of oil then entered into a tributary of Indian Creek which flows into the Tennessee River.
